The weather was warm, had relaxing stay. The hotel was in an unbeatable location, right across the road from a convenience store. Moreover, it's right by London, the garden and the pub. The room was cosy and had all the facilities.

The room was quiet and well laid out with excellent storage room. It was very well presented. The reception process was fast and courteous.
The room heating was off until we arrived and turned it on and the ensuite was awkward due to the slope of the (attic) roof and the corner shower was not really large enough for a 'well built' guest to use in comfort. The long term heating problems (we were advised it had been out of action for 3 months) and the temporary solution (3 electric convector heaters) made the breakfast room uncomfortably cold.

free wi-fi access. food was not too bad
my room was not serviced during my stay. The room was very basic and very stuffy as there was no air conditioning and it was 30 deg C outside during my stay.

The location for visiting Chalfont ST Giles is excellent, and the price was good. We did not eat in the restaurant, but the menu was inviting. Breakfast was well cooked and plentiful and the option to have breakfast anytime between 7am and mid day is a great improvement on the usual 10am prompt finish.
This was not our first visit to the hotel/pub and it was very obvious that standards were not being maintained. On arrival the room was icy cold, we had to turn the heating on and it was over an hour before the room reached a reasonable temperature and longer before the heated towel rail made a difference. There was a blood stain on the pillow of one bed - under the pillow case, but large enough to show through. There were spare pillows, but no spare pillow cases. The grout in the bathroom was going black in a number of places and there was mould on the skirting board. The bathroom was spartan and rickety, towels fell off the shelf, which wasn't level and the cover of the toilet cistern did not fit correctly. The room was spacious, but again spartan, there was not a single picture on the walls and the carpet was starting to show its age. The tv was small and to watch it, we had to rearrange the chairs, reception was poor, the picture froze often. There was a derelict sofa in the car park directly outside of the bathroom window. The security fence that was supposed to stop people from gaining access to the rear of the chalet style rooms was pushed over. In an unlocked cupboard outside the inner door of our room there was a pair of dirty socks and some dubious looking bed linen in a pile on the floor. The staff were all young, and said the right words, but gave the impression of having their minds on other things. There was no sign of staff having been trained or supervised.

On arrival treated with a smle and efficient service. Room comfortable, clean and quiet. Garden area well supplied with seats and tables - all clean and tidy. Pub area nicely decorated. Breakfast first class. Manager very affable and helpful. Location good.
Only minor observations: Room6 - the shower curtain needs to be further "out" from the bath so that it doesn't "attack" and try to envelope one when in the shower! Try a curved track and longer curtain set out from the bath itself. The ligt switches for the bed lights are both on the far side so the person sleeping in the bed nearest the door cannot switch the light on or off.

Friendliness and courtesy of staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Comfort and cleanliness of bedroom. Free and reliable wi-fi connection.
In cold winter weather, although the bedroom was excellent, the lighting and warmth of the bathroom did not quite match up.

Food was excellent. However, service at times was slow. The room I had was in an attic and I managedto bang my head a few times were the roof sloped in teh bedroom. The bed wasvery comfortable. However, teh double galzing seemed poor as couldeasily hear traffic outside. I would stay again if I had cause.

The recent refurbishment gives a fresh look. Breakfast featured a great selection and attentive service, while the steaks were notably high quality. The dessert options could be improved as they seemed a tad ordinary, and the noise from the pub below could be disruptive at times. Expectations for faster service at busy hours weren't met either.

The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. My wife and I dined in the restaurant and were most impressed with the service we received and with the very high standard of the cuisine; it was an enjoyable experience.
The duvet on the bed was much too warm for us and gave an overheated and restless night. The bedroom was very clean and pleasant, but the standard of cleaning in the bathroom needed improvement; in particular the bowl of the WC was badly stained and required attention.
